Drip Dry - Fast Drying Nail Polish

I am always messing up my just painted nails; I tried the one hand at a time techniques, the ice cold water trick and I have even waited over an hour before touching anything, in hopes of stopping myself from smudging my nail polish. I had almost accepted that my nails were always going to be slightly imperfect and then I read in an article in a magazine that mentioned Le Seche Vite fast drying top coat as the ultimate product for fast drying nails. However, trying to get it here in the UK is a little difficult and quite expensive, quite a bit more than I was willing to fork out (especially if it turned out not to work). So I was back to square one.
I’d almost forgotten about it all until on a recent visit to Germany, whilst catching up with some family there I stumbled across a brand called Essence in a cosmetics store. I was really shocked at the prices of their products but the quality no way mirrors this. They had a huge variety of affordable products from baked eye shadows to nail polishes. The one product that automatically jumped out at me was the ‘nail art express dry drops’.

Luckily with my lack of German translation skills all of the packaging was in English (I wish I was more bilingual *sigh*) It claimed to dry ‘your nail polish within 60 seconds’ and for €1.75 it went straight into my basket!  I wasn’t really expecting it to work as well as it did, it lived up to its definitely was dry in less than 60 seconds! I am super impressed with this little find and will definitely be asking my family to ship some more to me when I run out J

The product is super easy and convenient to use. You apply it using a pipette which allows you to control the drop of clear liquid directly onto the nail. You only need one drop even though it says 1-2, I even found that one was sometimes a little too much! The formula contains almond oil and vitamin E which is really good for your nails and cuticles. When I first used it I noticed that it was a little oily but it absorbs in quickly leaving lovely soft finger tips J
I can’t get over how excited I am about this new find. No more ruined nails for me J
Essence products are available in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Croatia, Italy, Switzerland and Austria.
If you've tried any other Essence Products i'd love to hear about your experiences :)

Face Of The Day - Summers Day 'Natural' Look

I don't really like wearing a lot of makeup when the weather is hot; I find it a bit uncomfortable. So today i've gone for a very subtle 'light' makeup. I've used less foundation that usual (just to give me that matte base) and have kept the eye's very soft. Hope you like it :)

Foundation - LancĂ´me Teint Idole Silky Matte 01
Concealer - Garnier Tinted Anti Dark Circles Roll On and Collection 2000
Bronzer - Benefit Hoola

Eye Shadow - Bourjois Mini's (great prices for eye shadow pans :) ) No. 47 ( light shimmery pink) and No. 52 (pink shimmery brown)
Mascara - Avon Super Shock Black
Lipstick - Mac Cream Cup

I'm sorry that the photo's aren't showing the makeup very well, the sun seemed to have washed the colours out :(

Simple Sun Care

With the weather looking up and summer holidays approaching fast, sun care has been on my mind quite a bit recently. I’m not one for lying in the sun for hours trying to get a tan, I get bored (I’m quite a fidget!) and I think my obsession with skincare makes me super conscious about the damaging effects that the sun can have.
On typical English days I feel that my daily moisturiser with SPF of 15 does the trick, but with sunnier days like the ones we’ve been having lately, I know that my moisturiser alone just isn’t enough. Whilst on holidays in the past I’ve just used whatever sun cream was on offer to protect my body and to be honest, I’ve just slapped that on my face too (shock horror some of you might think). I wasn’t really aware that there were sun creams specifically for just your face. However, now I know that this is almost certainly the reason why, I always had a shiny face in all of my holiday photos and that it was the cause of all the annoying, routine holiday breakouts!
I was pottering around Boots the other day and stumbled across the sun care isles. I noticed that Simple had brought out a new sun care range and seeing as I like quite a few of Simple’s products already, I suppose I was drawn to them.

I became particularly interested in the facial sun cream, everything on the tin sounded promising High UVB and 5 * UVA protection (many of the daily moisturizers only have UVA protection!). UVA protection goes more skin deep, helping to prevent wrinkles and other aspects of photo-aging and whereas UVB protection helps to prevent sunburn. The sun rays of UVB are more potent than UVA ones, so really just having UVA protection isn’t really a full defence. In the end I brought two products from the Simple Sun care range; the Sun Sensitive Protecting Facial Lotion (£10.20 for 75ml) and the Sun Sensitive Protecting light body lotion (£10.20 for 200ml) They were buy one get one free when I brought them, bargainJ! And if you’re interested the offer is still on! J
Over the past few weeks I’ve had quite a bit of use out of the facial sun cream and I’ve definitely been more than impressed so far.
The product contains sunflower extracts, which it claims will help to enhance your skins natural defences; as well as vital vitamins, such as pro- vitamin B5 and vitamin E that help to soften, smooth and improve the skins condition. To be honest when I read this claim in the shop I wasn’t really convinced, but actually I’ve been surprised. My skin has felt more moisturised and soft compared to the usual tacky feeling after using other sun creams.
As with all Simple products this also doesn't contain any unnecessary or harsh chemicals and is dermatologically tested. What was an even better sell for me was that it didn't have any perfume, colour and was oil free, meaning no more shiny face for me! Knowing that the sun cream was oil free is what I really liked about this facial sun cream.  Unlike my previous experiences with sun cream, I haven’t ended up with that horrible, greasy, sticky feeling after applying it. However, I must mention that once I had rubbed the sun cream into my skin I was a little worried. When you first apply it, it does leave a slight shiny surface, but don’t be put off as it soon absorbs into the skin to leave it feeling quite soft, without any visible shine or that unpleasant cloggy feeling.
The consistency of the cream is quite light and using it doesn’t whiten your skins appearance. Don’t worry you won’t end up looking paler than when you first started! You can even apply your makeup on top if you wanted to, which is comforting to know if like me, you sometimes need to cover those few little annoying blemishes J. The cream doesn’t have much of a smell as its perfume free. If you have quite sensitive skin, as always simple products are soft and gentle, so it should be alright to use J.
I really like the packaging that the product comes in. The flip cap is easy to use and hygienic. The squeezable tube allows you to control of how much product you want to use but I’ve noticed that once the tube has been in the sun for a while the formula can get a little runny, so be careful when reapplying it not to be too heavy handed, as you might end up with more than you need J
Overall I was really happy with my purchase of Simple’s sun cream.  It gives me confidence that my skin is protected without having to worry about looking greasy or shiny J .
If you have any other sun cream favourites i'd love to hear about them J

Try Before You Buy?...I don't mind if i do :)

The latest craze to have taken America by storm has been that of the Birch Box. It’s a monthly subscription of $10 a month in which members receive a beautifully presented box, filled with a selection of 4-5 deluxe samples to their door each month for them to try. The samples are anything from skincare to makeup and sometimes beauty tools, from well known brands as well as those that are more up and coming.
We all know the feeling when you’ve finally convinced yourself that paying 'X' amount for that latest beauty product is worth it. You tell yourself that you’ll be fine living off baked beans on toast for a month to justify it. You get home, rip open the packaging, try it out, only to find that the colour doesn’t suit you or that it breaks you out.

I know I can get a bit overwhelmed by the masses of new products becoming available at the moment; sometimes buying something that actually, i will never use. Meaning that finding the right product for you can sometimes be a bit of trial and error. So after hearing about this latest ‘try before you buy’ concept, I was really intrigued.  For ages I wondered if it would ever make its way over here to the UK (frantically wishing that it would!)
Well now it finally is! :)
The latest company to pick up on the idea is Boudoir Prive, who will be bringing their exciting version of the beauty box to us. Their beauty boxes will be introduced at the start of July! I’ve been ecstatic ever since J
For a subscription of £10 a month you become a member of Boudoir Prive, each month members will receive a gorgeous pink box filled with 6 expertly selected, luxury beauty samples to try out. The samples will include mix of established brands as well as new lines, across six different categories (skincare, body care, hair care, make-up, fragrance and lifestyle.)  The deluxe samples received will differ each month; which is great for those of us wishing to try out new products. What’s more if you receive a product that you like, you can buy the full sized version of it with a members discount on the Boudoir Prive website.

I absolutely love getting packages in the post and with the added surprise of what you might have to try out that month waiting inside a beautiful box, seem super exciting!
With huge varieties in skin tone, skin type, personal style and preference I hope that this new concept will make it easier for us to find great products, ones that work well for us and that we can have more confidence in before investing in them.

Being at a festival can often mean too many late nights, endless partying and our beauty regimes going out of the window, all of which can leave our skin looking a bit disheveled. Here are a few things that I thought might be useful when thinking about what to take with you to a festival. Helping you to retain your festival beauty, without having to lug around a ton of products.

Its key to prepare before you go …
  • For hair taming tricks use John Frieda 3 Day Straight; a semi permanent styling spray that will stop your hair from turning into a fizzy mess.
  • Paint your nails, not only will you look FAB but it will also help to hide any hidden dirt. Grab Revlon’s scented nail enamel in bubble gum pink, a perfect choice for this seasons summer brights!
  • Fake a tan using St Moritz self tanning mousse or if you want a more natural glow, try Garnier’s Summer body gradual tanner.

Once your there ….

  • Sun cream is a MUST have, nobody looks good with sun burn! Simple’s sun sensitive protective facial lotion in SPF 30 or 50 is gentle for your skin and its perfect for applying under your makeup without looking shiny.
  • To stay smelling as fresh as a daisy use Garnier Deodorant Mineral 48hr Non-Stop Silky Smooth Underarms which is specially designed for 48hr protection even under extreme conditions.
  • To prevent pander eyes and for long lasting eye shadow, use waterproof makeup. Using Rimmel’s Falsies Mascara in waterproof will help to keep your lashes looking luscious ( :) that's a bit of a mouthful!)
  • Multi purpose makeup is ideal when trying to pack light; ‘The Multiple’ sticks from Nars can be used on your eyes, cheeks and body.
  • My festival favourite has to be glitter! Collection 2000 and MUA have a great range of glitter eyeliners and Barry M’s Dazzles dusts can add that touch of sparkle.
  • With less that inadequate showering facilities dry shampoo is the Holy Grail product for surviving a festival, Tresemme’s Refreshing Dry Shampoo is great for keeping your hair looking clean without leaving your hair looking dull and white. There are also simple things like plaiting your hair or wearing a stylish hat that can do the trick too.
  • To prevent you getting ill and missing out on all the fun wet wipes and hand sanitizer are great ways to keep your hands hygienic.
  • Don't for get to use makeup removing wipes especially on those late nights when you really cant be bothered to remove your makeup (you’ll regret it in the morning)

I hope that these few tips might be of some help if you’re planning on going to a festival this summer. I love to hear if you’re going to any :)

British BB Creams

You might have heard the term BB cream being thrown around the beauty scene recently. Blemish balm is what the abbreviation ‘BB’ stands for and from its slightly miss leading name, you might believe it to be some kind of new spot treatment. Instead, it has multiple functions, only one of which being anti-inflammatory.  BB cream is a combination of a primer, lightweight foundation, concealer, anti aging moisturizer and a sun block! This all-in-one skin care hybrid is being called this years Holy Grail product in the UK. Perfect for freeing up our wallets so we can spend more money on other goodies J

German doctor Christine Schrammek, the genius behind the creation originally designed the cream as an ointment for her patients who had undergone skin peels. Its taken the beauty market by storm in Korea, Japan and China and now is starting to spread to other places on the globe.

Finally the UK have caught on and BB creams will be heading our way soon J *YAY* and I can’t be more excited! I have been searching on Ebay trying to get my hands on some to try out for a while now; but I have no need.

Garnier will be selling their version of the BB cream; ‘Miracle Skin Perfector Daily All in One BB cream’ from August.

However, there’s even more good news if you cant wait that long. Those of you who will be jetting off to various destination on holiday this summer, from July you’ll be able to buy Estee Lauder’s Cyber White Brilliant Cells Extra Intensive BB cream (£26),

Mac’s Prep and Prime BB cream (£22.10)

or Clinique’s Defense Age BB cream (£19) when passing through Heathrow Airport.

I do hope it’ll live up to all the hype! Let me know if you’re thinking about getting some J

Soap and Glory’s 'Hand Food' - Review

I don't have many products from Soap and Glory but I repurchase their ‘Hand Food’ over and over. It's marketed as a non-greasy, hydrating hand cream, that contains shea butter, macadamia oil and marshmallow, and my goodness, doesn't it smell good! However, the sweet scent might be a hit or miss for you; a few of my friends think it's a little too sickly for their liking.

This hand cream lives in my handbag, so that it's within quick reach when ever my hands are feeling a little dry. The formula is light and easily absorbs into the skin, without leaving a greasy, sticky residue. Its perfect for a quick application on the go and you don't have to worry about dropping things after applying it (unless your just clumsy like me J and drop things regardless). I will say that I do find that it doesn't hydrate my skin for very long; you do end up having to re apply quite a bit throughout the day. But if you're crazy about the scent like myself; its just another excuse to wack it on again! I don't have very sensitive hands but if you do, the strong amount of perfume in the formula might irritate your skin.

The packaging is another selling point for me. I really like the design; I think its very girly and not too fussy. I particularly like that it comes in a squeeze bottle with a flip cap, so that you can easily control how much you apply and it keeps the product hygienic (I’m not a fan of hand cream within a tub, it just gets messy).

I think the price is quite reasonable too, £4.85 for 125ml and for a smaller, 50ml travel size £2.35. I often wait till there's an offer going on,on the Soap and Glory products before i buy; which Boots have quite regularly.

Overall it's a great product if you want instant smooth and scented skin, but if you’re looking for a great long lasting moisturiser, I personally don't think this fits the bill.

If anyone has any other hand cream recommendation I’d love for you to let me know so I can give them ago J

Two Toned For Summer?

Two tones lips are one of the summer’s hottest trend, inspired by the two-toned lips at Dhini’s Australian fashion week show. I suppose its kind of colour blocking your lipstick, I quite like it but I’m not sure I could pull it off J

Great for a playful night out! Let your lips do the talking by keeping the rest of your makeup subtle as to not distract the attention from your lips!

Let me know what you think of this trend and if you will be trying out this look?
